Lyme disease and medicinal mushrooms - do they help?

Last week I left a message on Andrea's blog.  She just started taking some mushroom products and this is her story:

I just started taking some medicinal mushrooms today. I also reduced my doxycycline dose from 400mg/day to 200mg/day so it will last longer.

I'm having a fever today, and I feel like I'm coming down with something. It's a feeling I have often while having Lyme disease, and I haven't really gotten "sick" since getting Lyme disease--I'll feel almost sick, but I never get "sick" like with a flu.

Does this mean that my Lyme infection or coinfection(s) are coming back, with the lower dose of doxy?

Or does this mean that I'm having an increased immune reaction. Is the feeling of impending sickness (fever, slightly sore throat, bones feel a bit tender, want to curl up in bed) a sign that I'm finally having a good immune reaction (perhaps stimulated by the medicinal mushrooms)?

I've noticed that sometimes when I take things that are supposed to be good for Lyme disease, like cat's claw (una de gato), I end up feeling a bit sick/immune-ish. Maybe that's how I'm supposed to feel, maybe the herbs are supposed to stimulate an immune reaction.

I just realized something. When doctors put patients with suspected Lyme on doxy, they really need to TEST for Lyme and all possible co-infections at that point, before the patient starts doxy. Once the patient is taking medication, there's less of a chance that their co-infections will show up in already not-very-sensitive lab tests.

If you just got a bulls-eye rash, demand testing for Lyme, Ehrlichia (PCR test), Babesia (PCR or FISH smear, read Burrascano's guidelines), and Mycoplasm (PCR test)!!!

You'll need those test results in order to get any additional treatment you need.
